How to get to Granada

This section includes useful information to arrange to Granada by yourself, flying to Granada, Málaga or Madrid airports. Please, if you have any doubt, do not hesitate to contact with the Conference Secretariat.

(Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport, GRX)

There are direct flights to Granada from different locations:

Getting to Granada from Granada Airport

Granada airport is 15 km from the city centre. Granada airport terminal is not so big. Taxis and bus stops as well as rent car points can be easily reached going on the signals in the airport.

a) By taxi:

On arrival a good way to get to Granada is taking a taxi from the airport so you can get to your accommodation very easily. Taxi stop is located in front of the terminal building entrance. Taxi fares from the airport to the city centre are around 25-30 €. Taxis in the airport are always available at any time. No reservations needed.


b) By bus:

The Granada-Airport bus line connects with the city, with stops in strategic places, which takes you to the centre of Granada in about 25-45 min (depending on the destination). The bus schedule Airport-Granada ties in with all the flights. The ticket costs 3 €. Transfers to the airport are organized by the company Alsa Granada Airport S.L, number line 0245. It is the only bus from the airport. More info about timetable, itinerary and stops.

Bus departure times Airport - Granada:

Are scheduled to match flight arrival times. From the Airport to Granada, the bus stop closer to the conference venue is the last stop (Palacio de Congresos). From there you can reach on foot (about 17 minutes) the venue of the conference (Barceló Congress Hotel).

Another option is to take the Airport bus up to the Bus Station. From there you can take the urban city bus, line 1 up to the Recogidas stop or line 5 up to the Camino de Ronda 53 stop. In both options, you can reach on foot the venue of the conference in about 5 minutes. The city bus ticket is 1.35 €.

Bus stops and departure times Granada - Airport:

The starting bus stop in Granada is Palacio de Congresos, followed by Acera del Darro (Cine Madrigal door), Catedral, Gran Via 54, Constitucion 4, Plaza San Isidro, Estacion de Autobuses, Plaza de Europa, Avda. de Andalucia 4, Avda. Palos de la Frontera 2 and finally the airport.

(Malaga-Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport)

Málaga is the nearest international airport to Granada and has many more national and international flight connections.

Getting to Granada from Málaga airport

a) By bus: From Malaga airport to Granada bus station

There are twelve daily direct buses from Málaga airport to Granada bus station.

Málaga airport departures (bus stop just in from of the Terminal 3): 7:00 h, 8:30 h, 10:00 h, 10:45 h, 11:00 h, 11:30 h, 13:30 h, 16:00 h, 17:00 h, 18:30 h, 19:30 h, 20:45 h.

Duration: 2:15 h - 2:30 h

Price: Around 12 – 14 € (one way ticket)

b) By bus: From Malaga bus station to Granada bus station

The direct bus from Malaga airport is recommended. But if you arrive at another time, it is possible to catch a bus from Málaga airport to Málaga bus station and then catch a bus to Granada. There are buses to Málaga bus station every 30 minutes and buses to Granada every hour.

Getting to Malaga bus station from Malaga airport:
  • By taxi: Around 20 €
  • By bus: Line A (Shuttle bus)

    Málaga airport departures (bus stop just in front of the Terminal 3): Every 30 minutes, during the 24 hours.

    Duration: 20 minutes

    Price: 3 € (one way ticket). You can buy the ticket on the checkpoint located at the exit of the terminal in cash or by credit card or pay directly to the bus driver in cash.

  • By suburban (local) train: Line C1

    Line C1 of Renfe suburban trains connects terminal T3 with the Malaga train station (María Zambrano). There are entrances to the suburban train station, part of the Terminal building, in the exterior arrivals area and the forecourt of the departures area.

    Price: 1.80 € (one way ticket).

Getting Granada bus station from Málaga bus station:

There is a bus every hour from the Malaga bus station to Granada bus station, from 7:00 until 21:30.

Price: Around 12 -14 €.

Duration: Around 1:45 h (128 kms).

Note that it is difficult to get to Granada after 21:30.


c) By car: From Málaga airport to Granada

There are plenty of rent a car companies operation at the Malaga airport area. Some are located inside the airport, but the most of them have their offices outside the airport, although they can pick you up in the airport terminal. The companies operating inside the Malaga airport are:

d) By taxi: From Málaga airport to Granada

Another option to get to Granada is clubbing together with 2 or 3 people and get a taxi. A taxi from Málaga costs about 150 € during the weekdays and takes around one and a half hours. You can also book the service in advance with specialized companies. A fixed price for taxi in advance is highly recommended.

(Madrid Barajas Adolfo Suarez Airport)

Barajas Airport is the most important international airport of Spain. It has numerous international flight connections, as connection with Granada. It is a huge airport: it is highly recommended to allow enough time for transfers. If you do not take a flight transfer to Granada from Madrid, the following ways are possible to get to Granada:

a) By bus: From Madrid airport to Granada

There is one daily direct bus every day from Madrid airport to the Granada Bus Station, at 1:30 am.

Price of the regular ticket: Around 40 €.

Duration: Around 5:00 h (500 km).

Buses depart from the ground (0) floor (Arrivals terminal T4).


b) By regular bus: From Madrid bus station to Granada

There are many direct buses daily from Madrid Bus Station (Estación del Sur) to the Bus Station of Granada. Available buses can be found from 1:30 am to 8:30 pm.

Price of the regular ticket: About 19 € (Supra service about 40 €).

Duration: Around 5 h (450 km).

Getting to Madrid bus station (Estación del Sur) from Madrid airport:

By taxi: Around 40 €.

By metro-Cercanías: Around 3 €. Line C1: Aeropuerto T4 to the 'Méndez Álvaro Estación Sur' stop. It takes around 40 minutes.


c) By car: From Madrid airport to Granada

Looking for:

Departure: 'Madrid-Barajas Airport'

Destination: ‘12 Calle Maestro Montero, Granada, Spain’

The trip is about 430 km and takes around 4:30 h.

Madrid is connected to Granada via the A-4 motorway (signs for Córdoba). After about 285 km, at Bailén village, you have to take the A-44 motorway (signs for Granada).


d) By train: From Madrid to Granada

The option of travelling by train from Madrid to Granada is not currently available due to works for the implementation of the high-speed line. It is expected to be operational by 2020.

(Hotel Barceló Granada Congress)

a) By taxi:

The trip takes around 15 min

Price: Around 10 €


b) By bus:

Bus stop is just in front of the main entrance of the bus station.

Line 5 (red colour buses; see picture).

Schedule: Every 15 minutes, from 6:35/6:45 to 23:00/23:25.

Price: (One ticket) 1.40 €. You can pay by cash directly to the bus driver.

The stop of the venue of the 34th EWGAE Conference is 'Camino Ronda 53', 5 minutes walking to the Hotel Barceló Granada Congress (see map):


c) By metro:

Metro stop is just in front of the main entrance of the bus station.

Line 1, direction to Armilla.

Schedule: Every 10 minutes, from 6:30 to 23:00.

Price: (One ticket) 1.35 €. You need to buy a ticket in the machine.
